A Washer man belongs to a backward class. The washer man is usually thin and lean. He wears dirty clothes. We
often see him going to the canal bank in the morning. He follows a
donkey with a bundle of clothes on its back. His dog walks behind him. The life of the Washer man is very hard.
His work is very hard indeed. He goes from house to house to collect dirty clothes. He washes them standing in the water. In winter the water is very cold. But he must stand in it. Most of the Washer men are very regular. He beats the clothes on a piece of stone or wood. He then spreads them on grass. While they are dry, he irons them. He must return the clothes to the owners within a week. He charges 10 rupees per cloth.
